River Island to close its stores in the Netherlands and Belgium

River Island is set to close all of its stores in the Netherlands and Belgium, a spokesperson of the British retailer confirmed to FashionUnited.

The company’s stores in the Netherlands and its store in Antwerp, Belgium, will close at the end of March 2019, though the brand will remain an online retailer in the area, the company said. The news comes following several years of poor sales in the region, though the specific reason for the closures was not given.

River Island opened its first Dutch store in Amsterdam in 2006, before opening its first one in Antwerp in 2010.
